Carilion Children's Hospital Celebrates Safety Week 2024

SPS is celebrating Safety Week on March 10-16! In celebration of #SPSsafetyweek2024, we’re highlighting the awesome patient and employee safety improvement work going on within our organizations! First up is Carilion Children's Hospital!

In 2023, Carilion Children's celebrated big milestones on their journey to zero harm:

Pediatrics Unit Celebrations:

• Zero CAUTIs for two years

• Zero Pressure Injuries for two years

• Reduced their fall rate from 1.35 to 0.76

PICU Celebrations:

• Zero CAUTIs for four years

• Zero CLABSIs for four years

• Six months without an Unplanned Extubation

• Decreased medication error rate from 10.29 to 4.08

NICU Accomplishments:

• Zero CAUTIs for three years

• Zero CLABSIs for one year

• Zero Pressure Injuries for one year

• Zero VAEs for one year

• Decreased medication error rate from 1.4 to 0.16
