Children's Nebraska Celebrates Safety Week 2026

SPS is celebrating Patient and Employee Safety Week on March 8-14! In celebration of #SPSsafetyweek2026, we’re highlighting the awesome patient and employee safety improvement work within our organizations! Next up is Children's Nebraska!

Three women holding trophy and certificate

At Children’s Nebraska, the Patient Safety Project Managers Annie and Kendra, Binod Tripathee, Patient Safety Systems Analyst, and the NICU, PICU, and CCU teams are proving that proactive safety education can be both effective and fun.

To strengthen Unplanned Extubation (UE) prevention, Annie and Kendra reimagined traditional safety simulation by creating an interactive “airway game show.” The experience transformed UE prevention strategies into engaging, team‑based learning that energized frontline staff and reinforced critical safety concepts.

To build excitement and participation, Binod added a creative twist: crafting a trophy from expired ETT tape. What followed was a friendly, high‑energy ICU rivalry, with teams competing for the trophy like it was the ICU Super Bowl. The result was strong engagement, shared learning, and safety conversations that truly stuck.

During Safety Week, we’re proud to spotlight this team’s innovative approach. Their work shows how creativity, collaboration, and fun can drive meaningful learning and safer outcomes for patients.
