Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Celebrates Safety Week 2024

SPS is celebrating Safety Week on March 10-16! In celebration of #SPSsafetyweek2024, we’re highlighting the awesome patient and employee safety improvement work going on within our organizations! Next up is Children's Hospital of Philadelphia!

First, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) would like to highlight Jessica, a Safety and Quality Specialist.

Jessica noticed a dip in the flooring of an interior ramp leading to the CSH. She escalated this trip hazard and reached out for assessment and resolution. Her attention to detail and drive are helping to protect CHOP patients, families, and staff from becoming injured.

Secondly, CHOP is excited to announce a new interactive exercise that focuses on applying Safety Behaviors for Error Prevention while discussing previous safety events called “Zero in on Safety Stories.” This new interactive exercise provides a high-level overview of a safety story followed by templated discussion questions surrounding potential preventative strategies and best practices using a non-blaming, psychologically safe approach.

Safety stories are encouraged to be shared at daily huddles, staff meetings, leadership meetings, and focused rounding. The estimated time for completing the “Zero in on Safety Stories” interactive exercise with staff is approximately ten minutes or less! Congratulations to Kait Donnelly, Bridget Cei, Hayden Rhoden, and Rachel Ponzek who worked on this project.
